The Cristóbal de Mondragón Company, together with the City Council of Medina del Campo, organizes the historical recreation of the arrival of Carlos V to the city of Medina del Campo on his last trip to Yuste, which will take place in that Castilian city in November 3rd 2019. A historical recreation that aims to show in the most faithful way possible the arrival of the emperor to the villa of the fairs and the subsequent reception in the palace of the Dueñas.
As a background, it should be noted that Charles V arrived at Medina del Campo on November 5th, 1556 and entered through the Valladolid Gate. Later, he was received by the local authorities at that time, and headed to the Dueñas palace, where Don Rodrigo de Dueñas would host and invite him to spend the night in his palace, so that the next day he could continue his trip to Yuste.
According to the story, the emperor didn't want lavish receptions, since Charles V had set course for his retirement from Yuste and didn't consider it appropriate, but Rodrigo Dueñas arranged the opposite: a reception in style. It seems to the monarch that he did not like this reception too much, that he ended with the expulsion of that nobleman from his own palace for snubbing him.
The agenda scheduled for this recreation is:
12.30: Emperor's entrance in Medina. Route: C / Valladolid, C / Padilla and Plaza Mayor.
13.00: from the balcony of the Town Hall, greetings from Charles V and authorities to the people.
13.15: delegation from the Town Hall to the Dueñas Palace. Route: Plaza Mayor, C / Almirante, C / Alfonso Quintanilla, C / San Martin, Plaza del Pan, C / Marqués de la Ensenada and C / Santa Teresa.
