Descrizione The "Ommegang" of Brussels, the annual historical procession with which Brussels recalls the first visit to the city of Emperor Charles V in the company of his son, Felipe II, is already part of the UNESCO Representative List of Cultural Heritage Intangible of Humanity, after the Committee made the decision during yesterday, Wednesday, December 11; list that includes living traditions or expressions transmitted from generation to generation. The Ommegang of Brussels —whose origin is a word that in ancient Flemish means bypass— is a historical representation that takes place through the streets of the city center in early July since 1957, although the tradition dates back to the 16th century. It is a medieval event of festive heritage whose goal is to convey a message of peace and unity. An event, in short, that is part of the Route Network of Emperor Charles V, one of the 38 cultural itineraries recognized by the Council of Europe.
