This year the COVID-19 will prevent Medina de Pomar from commemorating the passing of the Emperor Charles V through the town as is customary on the third weekend of October. Despite this, the Town Hall, as it has been doing since the summer, does not want the important dates in the Medina calendar to fall into oblivion.
For this reason the Town Hall has prepared a brief commemorative programme consisting of thematic guided tours that will relate the history of the city with the passage of Emperor Charles V through it in 1556. The visits will take place in the Historical Museum of Las Merindades, the Monastery of Santa Clara and the historical centre of the city, between Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th.
In order to go to them it is necessary to make a previous reservation at the following telephone numbers: 947190746 (for the visits to the Museum and the Historical Centre) and 947191606 (for the visits to the Monastery). On the morning of Sunday 18th, Medinese and visitors will be able to attend the traditional Renaissance Mass which will be held in the parish church of Santa Cruz at 11:30 am.
The mass will be sung by the "Voces Nostrae" Choir, whose music will take those attending back to the time of the Emperor. The programme is completed by the exhibition "Charles V, Do you know the Emperor? a collection of information panels with which visitors to the exhibition will learn about the Emperor and his time. The exhibition can be visited in the Casa de Cultura from 19th to 30th October.
The Route of Charles V began to be held in Medina de Pomar in the year 2000. This festival commemorates the passage of the Emperor Charles I of Spain and V of Germany through the city of Medina in 1556 and is held on the third weekend of October.
