Next February 2nd will take place the traditional Route of the Emperor, starting from the current national parador of Jarandilla de la Vera —and the former castle of the count of Oropesa—, and crossing Aldeanueva de la Vera and Cuacos de Yuste, will conclude at the Royal Monastery of Yuste.
A route, which this year celebrates its twentieth edition, and which edition after edition attracts the attention of thousands of hikers; and that it has again the organization of the Commonwealth of La Vera and the local action group Adicover in collaboration with the municipalities and associations of the La Vera region, and also with the Junta de Extremadura, among other groups and institutions.
The route follows the original path followed by the Emperor Charles V on February 3th, 1557, until he reached his final destination before dying, the Royal Monastery of Yuste. With an approximate length of ten kilometers, it gives value to everything that the Comarca de la Vera is able to offer through its natural, heritage and gastronomic offer.
To enjoy all the planned activities and speed up the trips of the walkers who come to the route, the organization puts at your disposal at all points of the route a 'Carolino Passport', with an amount of 4 euros; document that entitles the bearer to taste the products offered on the route, to a diploma accrediting their participation, and to participate in the draw for a trip to Ghent for two people, in addition to a basket of typical products from the area.
Likewise, it is also necessary to remember that, as usual, on February 9th the Emperor's Route will be celebrated on horseback in what is already its 17th edition. Both will be accompanied by different cultural and musical events that will take place in the towns along the route —Jarandilla de la Vera, Aldeanueva de la Vera and Cuacos de Yuste—.
The Route of the Emperor is an activity declared of Regional Tourist Interest; and also, since 2016, European Cultural Itinerary of the Council of Europe through its Institute of Cultural Routes.
